Using still life as subject matter, this course develops the student’s powers of observations and equips them with portable skills necessary for painting in all genres. Traditional conventions for transmitting form and light will be communicated in a way that makes them completely useful to the developing artist.
Heavy emphasis is placed on John Singer Sargent’s Five Types of Light as well as the teachings of John F. Carlson, Birge Harilson and other notable masters. Secondary emphasis is placed on drawing within the context of painting.
